Killeshandra chosen by Fáilte Ireland as Anglers Welcome Hub

The town of Killeshandra was chosen by Fáilte Ireland as an ‘Angler’s Welcome’ hub. As part of this, service providers (pubs, B&Bs, self-catering providers, florist, angling guides etc) in the town have undergone a series of training workshops to ensure the service they provide to anglers is of a very high quality. As a result, Fáilte Ireland is now promoting Killeshandra as a destination of excellence for anglers.

Killeshandra was chosen because it met a variety of criteria and could provide all that was required to anglers, such as the availability of excellent fishing waters, angler – friendly accommodation, boat-hire, tackle and bait shop, access etc.
Anglers tell us they come to Ireland for more than just the fishing. They come for an experience that can be summed up in ‘Travel, Stay, Fish and Play’. While angling is the prime motivator, other elements such as angler friendly accommodation, good food, pubs and entertainment are all important element of the overall angling holiday experience.

The Anglers Welcome Hubs initiative involves working with individuals and community groups to develop customer care and marketing skills as well as encouraging networking between local businesses with the aim of growing angling tourism business to the area.

Businesses who take part in the initiative are eligible to sign up to an ‘Anglers Welcome’ charter. These charters have been developed around the needs of anglers. The charters cover; Angling Guides, Accommodation (B&B, Hotel, Guesthouse, Self Catering, Caravan & Camping) Pubs & Dining, Visitor Attractions, Retail Premises, Charter Skippers and Town/Village. Each charter contains a series of ‘service promises’ and a commitment to offering, the angler, a pleasant and enjoyable ‘Anglers Welcome’ experience.

On Wednesday 22nd July, the service providers in Killeshandra who participated in the training were presented with their charters. All of these participants have committed to providing an excellent service to anglers.
